Foundation grants provide food, shelter and holiday gifts

The Wisconsin Energy Foundation responds to grant requests throughout the year. Recent grants include: 
  • St. Vincent de Paul, Marquette – $1,000 for Christmas gift program. 
  • Feeding America, Ishpeming – $500 for food pantry. 
  • Boy Scouts of America – Chippewa Valley Council, Eau Claire - $2,500 for lake aeration and environmental research. 
  • Fox Valley Warming Shelter Inc., Appleton – $1,000 for general operating assistance. 
  • Little Chute Fire Department – $1,000 for natural gas detectors. 
  • Reach Counseling Services Inc., Neenah – $1,000 for sexual abuse prevention training. 
  • Volunteer Center of East Central Wisconsin Inc., Appleton – $1,500 for Project Heat’s On. 
  • Hebron House of Hospitality, Waukesha – $1,000 for men’s winter overflow shelter. 
  • Interfaith Senior Programs Inc., Waukesha – $2,000 for holiday gifts for homebound seniors. 
  • Second Chance Partners for Education, Pewaukee – $1,000 for technology enhancement. 
  • National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Racine – $1,000 for Freedom Fund Dinner. 
  • Oak Creek Community Center – $1,200 for Evening of Blessings free Thanksgiving dinner. 
  • Village of Pleasant Prairie – $750 for the 2012 Prairie Family Days. 
  • Riveredge Nature Center, Newburg – $7,500 for the center’s lake sturgeon streamside rearing facility. 
  • Neighborhood House of Milwaukee – $5,000 for the 2012 annual celebration sponsorship and video support. 
  • MRA Charities, Menomonee Falls – $5,000 for the 1290 Christmas Family Feast.

Foundation grants support literacy, youth and food banks

Recent grants from the Wisconsin Energy Foundation will help the following nonprofit organizations improve the quality of life in the We Energies service area. Recent grants include:
  • Northwoods Airlifeline Ltd., Kingsford, Mich. — $500 for airlift upgrade. 
  • Bay Cliff Health Camp, Big Bay, Mich. — $1,000 for campership appeal. 
  • Friends of Hearthstone Inc., Appleton — $2,500 for the Be Great Campaign. 
  • Rothschild Elementary School, Rothschild, Wis., — $1,500 for Young Author’s Conference. 
  • Friends of the Boerner Botanical Gardens, Hales Corners — $1,500 for children’s plant science and environmental education programming. 
  • ANGEL Inc., (Autism Network through Guidance, Education and Life), Racine — $1,000 for needs of autistic children and their families. 
  • Racine Family YMCA — $2,500 for Strong Kids/Strong Communities campaign. 
  • Walkin’ In My Shoes Inc., Kenosha — $500 for youth street outreach and supportive housing program. 
  • Waukesha County Christmas Clearing Council Inc., Waukesha — $2,000 for gift cards for teens at Christmas. 
  • Career Youth Development Inc., Milwaukee — $2,500 for first time home buyer support. 
  • Council for the Spanish Speaking Inc., Milwaukee — $2,500 for Thanksgiving Food Drive. 
  • Hmong American Friendship Association Inc., Milwaukee — $2,500 for Milwaukee Hmong New Year Celebration. 
  • Vision Forward Association, Milwaukee — $2,500 for children’s service program. 
  • Sojourner Family Peace Center, Milwaukee — $2,500 for Raise Hope campaign. 
  • Repairers of the Breach Inc., Milwaukee — $2,000 for general operating support. 
  • IndependenceFirst Inc., Milwaukee — $2,000 for independent living services for people with disabilities. 
  • Make a Difference Wisconsin Inc., Milwaukee — $5,000 for financial education program for high school youth.

Recent grants from the Wisconsin Energy Foundation will help the following nonprofit organizations improve the quality of life in the We Energies service area. Recent grants include:
  • YMCA – Marquette County, Marquette, Mich. — $500 for Strong Kids Community support. 
  • Dickinson County Bike Path, Iron Mountain, Mich. — $500 contribution for county bike path. 
  • Boys & Girls Club of Fox Valley, Appleton — $25,000 for the Be Great Campaign. 
  • Harbor House Domestic Abuse Program, Appleton — $2,000 for Harbor House’s Shelter Program. 
  • LEAVEN Inc., Menasha — $5,000 for emergency financial assistance. 
  • Literacy Council of Wood County, Marshfield — $500 for Life and Employment Skills Adult Education Program. 
  • Moms and Dads Against Meth, St. Croix Falls — $500 for general operations of a sober house for women. 
  • Milwaukee Summer Reading Project — Institute for the Transformation of Learning — $20,000 for the Milwaukee Summer Reading Project 2012. 
  • Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Wisconsin Inc., Milwaukee — $50,000 for Empowering Latinos for Economic Prosperity program.

Violence-prevention programs, veterans, young readers benefit from recent grants

  • Advocates of Ozaukee, Saukville  $2,000 for domestic violence program. 
  • Friends of the Waukesha Public Library, Waukesha  $2,500 for Waukesha Reads program. 
  • Hoo’s Woods Inc., Whitewater  $5,000 for raptor continuing education program. 
  • Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts, Brookfield  $5,000 for curriculum-based programs: Beyond the Classroom. 
  • Waukesha County Community Dental Clinic Inc.  $2,500 for program that increases access to preventive dental care and education for low-income families in Waukesha County. 
  • Allied Churches Teaching Self Empowerment Inc., Milwaukee — $2,500 for foreclosure reclamation program.
  • Black Health Coalition, Milwaukee  $2,500 for Ninth Annual Walk for Quality Health. 
  • Dominican Center for Women, Milwaukee  $2,000 for Dominican Center for Women Housing and Safety program. 
  • Hmong American Friendship Association Inc., Milwaukee — $2,500 for translation and interpretation services to promote energy safety and efficiency. 
  • New Concept Self Development Center, Milwaukee  $2,500 for mentoring coalition violence prevention project. 
  • United Migrant Opportunity Services Inc., Milwaukee  $2,500 for GED bridge and career pathways math lab. 
  • Veterans for Peace, Milwaukee  $2,500 for food pantry and meal program.
